Our Mission

Our mission is to enhance the New York City college and intern experience by providing safe and convenient housing in an enriching student life environment. Educational Housing Services (EHS) knows that convenient and safe housing is key to a student’s success and puts community and quality of life at the forefront of everything we do. Our amenity-inclusive residences and one-of-a-kind Student Life program allows residents to focus on their dreams, which is why thousands of students and interns from over 150 colleges and 50 countries around the world choose EHS as they study or intern in New York City. 

A 501©3 not-for-profit organization founded in 1987, EHS works directly with individual students as well as partners with schools and companies to provide all-inclusive contract housing. EHS’s expertise in student housing also makes it an ideal real estate partner for brokers and schools.

  • Jeffrey Lynford

    Jeffrey Lynford

    President

    Mr. Jeffrey Lynford is the President and CEO of Educational Housing Services. Previously, he was the co-founder of the Wellsford group of public and private real estate companies and provided 18 years of continuous executive corporate leadership as the Chairman of three exchange-listed corporations, and previously, for nearly a decade, he held senior investment banking positions on Wall Street. <p>&nbsp;</p> Mr. Lynford brings extensive not-for-profit, higher education, business, real estate, and civic experience to the EHS leadership position. Currently, he holds a gubernatorial appointment as Vice Chairman of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In addition, he serves on the boards of New York University and the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (formerly the Polytechnic Institute of NYU). Previously he was a Member of the New York State Council on the Arts and a Trustee of the Trust for Governors Island (both gubernatorial appointments). He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, Vice Chair of the Global Heritage Fund, and a trustee or director emeritus of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, the Citizens Budget Commission, and the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. <p>&nbsp;</p> Mr. Lynford holds three university degrees, including a Master in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University, a Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

  • Faye Bean

    Faye Bean

    SVP, Leasing & Marketing

    Ms. Faye Bean is the Senior Vice President of Leasing and Marketing and has been with EHS since 1998. Ms. Bean is responsible for designing creative marketing campaigns and developing effective methodologies and processes for their execution. Her expertise in hospitality, business, and creative marketing has set new operation standards within the company. ​Ms. Bean attended SUNY Brockport where she studied liberal arts.

  • Christy Chatfield

    Christy Chatfield

    SVP, Student Life

    Ms. Christy Chatfield is the Senior Vice President of Student Life and has been with EHS since 2004 when she joined to organize the Student Life department. She provides leadership and vision in the design and the administering of a comprehensive range of programs and services related to campus programming and planning. She assists in creating a culture that promotes academic achievement, oversees security and crisis response, advocates on behalf of the students, and fosters collaborative relationships amongst students, staff, and clients. ​Previously Ms. Chatfield served as the Dean of Students at Marymount Manhattan College, after having served as the Director of Residence Life. Ms. Chatfield is a graduate of New York University with a Master’s degree in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education and Widener University with Bachelor degrees in Psychology and Social Work.

  • Ariel Dybner

    Ariel Dybner

    SVP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

    Mr. Ariel Dybner is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and has been with EHS since 2013. Previously Mr. Dybner served as a Partner at leading law firms Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP and Mayer Brown LLP, and as Vice Chair of the Maplewood Township Zoning Board of Adjustment. Mr. Dybner holds three university degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Amherst College, a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and a Juris Doctor from Columbia University, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and the Articles Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review​. In addition, Mr. Dybner is a Partner at Dybner & Dybner, a boutique transactional firm, a member of the New York and New Jersey Bar, and an Attorney Affiliate Member of the National Association of Development Companies.

  • Joseph La Vacca

    Joseph La Vacca

    Treasurer

    Mr. Joseph La Vacca is the Treasurer and has been with EHS since 2002. With over 20 years of accounting experience, Mr. La Vacca is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, the analysis and development of budgets and financial forecasts, as well as the year-end audits and financial personnel. Previously he served as the Assistant Controller for the Parish of Trinity Church, an Accounting Manager at Graham & James, LLP, Controller at Sanus Health Plans of NY, and as Assistant Controller at Reid & Priest, LLP. Mr. La Vacca is a graduate of CUNY College of Staten Island with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

  • Kevin Gross

    Kevin Gross

    VP, Facilities & Property Management

    Mr. Kevin Gross is the Vice President of Facilities and Property Management and ​has been with EHS since 2005. With over 12 years experience in property management, Mr. Gross is responsible for current and longer term real estate projects, building maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements. Previously he served as Director of Facilities and Special Projects for ARAMARK Education. Mr. Gross is a graduate of Trinity University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters degree in Urban Studies. In addition, he attended the Teachers College Columbia University where he studied Applied Anthropology.

  • Fred Neglia

    Fred Neglia

    Director of Public Safety

    Fredrick Neglia is EHS' Director of Public Safety with more than thirty years of Life Safety and Law Enforcement experience, which included over twenty years with the New York City Police Department as a Patrol Officer/Homicide Detective Investigator and more than ten years at Nassau Community College. While there, he rose to the rank of Assistant Chief/Director of Public Safety. Fred has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Nassau Community College Leadership Award (2011), United States Congressional Award (2001), Nassau County Executive Award (2001), U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency-Excellent Service Award (1996), as well as numerous NYPD awards. Fred holds degrees from SUNY-Empire State College and the New York City Police Academy. His goal is to provide a safe, secure and worry free environment for both the EHS residents and their guests. In his spare time he enjoys volunteering, and is an active supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Autism Speaks.

  • Jerry Hultin

    Jerry Hultin

    Board Chair

    The Honorable Jerry Hultin is the EHS Board Chair and serves on the Governance, Finance and Compensation Committee. Mr. Hultin is a graduate of The Ohio State University (BA) and Yale Law School (JD), and is currently the Chairman of the Global Futures Group, LLC, a company organized to support the innovative use of technology to improve the quality of life and inclusiveness of cities around the world. He was recently a Senior Presidential Fellow at New York University and the 15th President at Polytechnic Institute of NYU (2005 - 2012). Formerly he served as Dean of the Howe School at Stevens Institute of Technology (2000 - 2005) and as Undersecretary of the Navy in the Department of Defense (1997 - 2000). He was appointed by President Clinton, with Senate confirmation, to serve as second in civilian command of the Department of the Navy.

Room Assignment Information

In a shared room/suite, Female and Male rooms are assigned to residents whose gender identity aligns with the gender of that room. Selecting Neutral allows residents to reside with other residents regardless of gender identity, sex or gender expression.

Subject to availability. All 9 month reservations require 30% plus Membership Fee at the time of reservation, with 30% due by 8/1 and the final 40% due by 12/1.

4. Provide Guarantor Information

A guarantor is a person over the age of 21, usually a parent, who agrees to be responsible if you are ever unable to fulfill the financial obligations of your housing agreement. If you can't get a parent to be a guarantor, the next best bet would be a relative or friend.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

To ensure the integrity of your reservation, all cancellation requests MUST be received by EHS through DocuSign or sent via certified or registered mail (to 55 Clark Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201, Attention: Director of Leasing). Your request MUST be processed by DocuSign by 11:59 pm New York City Time, or postmarked on or before the cancellation deadlines set forth above. Cancellation requests processed or postmarked after the deadline or sent via a different method will result in NO REFUND of monies paid.

If there is a guarantor (required for 9 and 12 month reservations), the guarantor will be responsible to guarantee payment pursuant to the License Agreement and the Guaranty.

The client also understands that the Membership Fee is NONREFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE.

All refunds are processed via check within 8-10 weeks and mailed to the client.
