Arrival Information

Hudson Yards

You are about to join your fellow EHS residents in one of the world’s greatest hubs of culture and creativity; leading to lasting memories and friendships.

Room Information

EHS assigns residents to one of three types of rooms, female, male, neutral. Single gender rooms (female, male) are assigned to residents whose gender identity aligns with the gender of that room and who wish to live in a single gender room. In alignment with the values and law in NYC, assignments are made based on a resident’s gender identity, regardless of sex assigned at birth, gender expression, medical history, or gender on identification cards. EHS does not segregate floors by gender. We want students of all genders to feel comfortable living in our community.

EHS is pleased to offer a gender inclusive housing assignment referred to as "gender neutral" housing. Gender Neutral Housing allows residents to reside with other residents regardless of gender identity, sex or gender expression. By selecting this room type, residents commit to living in a room/suite occupied by other residents who also prefer gender neutral housing and whose gender identity may or may not match their own.

Should a vacancy arise within a gender neutral room/suite, this space will be filled by any applicant that has a gender neutral selection, whether or not the current residents know the applicant. Applicants who select the gender neutral room type should therefore be willing to live with any other resident who is participating in gender neutral housing.

EHS discourages residents who are in a romantic relationship – regardless of sex, gender, gender identity or gender expression – to live together in apartments or rooms shared with other residents. Residents in romantic relationships may apply to live together in any apartment or room type that is not shared with additional residents and must each identify their intended roommate(s) upon booking and complete a Mixed Gender Form with their Housing Advisor.

In the event of roommate issues between residents in a romantic relationship, residents will be required to relocate.

Other factors used in matching roommates such as age, sleep schedule and smoking preference are still considered when making assignments within each of these room types.

Each resident is provided with an Extra Long size twin bed with an Extra Long mattress, two dressers underneath the bed and a desk with a chair. There are also two cabinets for storage.

Each room includes an XL twin bed, 3.5 cubic ft. refrigerator, a sink, a desk/desk chair, two dressers, a closet or wardrobe and a full-length mirror.

EHS will deny any request for removal or rearrangement of furniture.

We are unable to provide your room number until you arrive. If you have a specific roommate request, please make sure to let us know several weeks in advance of your move-in date. We do our best to accommodate requests when possible.

While most rooms are singles, there are a few doubles rooms. Residents selecting to live in a double occupancy room are agreeing to the ‘Family Unit’ approach to room occupancy. Residents in this arrangement agree to share the responsibility of keeping their room clean and free of any damage and abiding by all EHS Policies listed in the Residence Code of Conduct.

Please remember double occupancy rooms are intended for two residents, respectively. When a vacancy becomes available in a shared space, a new roommate will be assigned accordingly. If you are in a shared room that has a vacancy or if you are scheduled to vacate a fully occupied room, please be aware that we may show your room to prospective residents. We will always knock and announce ourselves before entering to tour the room. You are only permitted to occupy your side of the room, always. We will make every effort to give you at least a 24-hour notice prior to a new roommate’s arrival.

Residents living in a single occupancy room are fully responsible for their room and by abiding by all EHS Policies listed in the Residence Code of Conduct, as this applies to all residents.
