I decided to try to find a new place to eat for lunch today. My restaurant criteria were outdoor seating in a casual atmosphere where lunch was less than $8. I ended up walking up and down the nearby street and discovering a tiny shop that served Vietnamese sandwiches and bubble tea, a gourmet pet food store, and this crazy restaurant called "Robin De Bois" (trans: Robin of Wood) which had a hip-high statue outside of the door. I'm not quite sure what a dwarf-sized bright red Michelin Man has to do with a Robin Hood, but clearly it must be something. But I couldn't figure out where I wanted to eat.

I splurged on cheap Chinese dumplings for lunch. I figured with an already troubled soul risking an upset stomach from questionable Chinese food was the way to go. But instead of eating the dumplings, I made friends with the restaurant owner, a small Chinese woman who didn't speak enough English to disperse the middle school students standing around the glass storefront. But the totally redeeming point of this seemingly heinous restaurant choice was that they sell fried sweet plantains for less than $2. I'm psyched to try them!

This evening Mary and I grabbed dinner preparations from Garden of Eden, signed up for our gym memberships at Eastern Athletic, and retreated back to our own rooms. Daph came by after she got home, and my night ended by making plans with Sara M to go on a walk tomorrow after work.

Oh by the way, my parents clearly don’t love me at all. They hate me so much they've crafted the perfect plan, to make me so happy in my life here that I never want to come home. But the plan seems to be working my parent's devious craftiness: 1, Bad New York Day: 0
