This morning I woke up and stumbled into the shower at 9:00 am. It was disgustingly early for the girl who gets up the entire school year between 10:30 and 11:45am. But the early wake up call was compounded not only by 613's stunning lack of blinds (and bright Brooklyn sun) but also by my room mate Trischa coming home at 6:30am and then proceeding to talk loudly on the phone in the bed 5 feet away from me. It was the second morning in a row that she'd done this (although yesterday when I didn't have to get up, it was at 7:30 rather than 6:30). Anyways, I got up, dressed, and out the door in only a little over an hour.
It was the best type of first day I could ask for. I left the house at 10:06 and arrived at Romantic Times at exactly 10:30. During my walk to work I had time to meander, do a little bit of exploring (as much as you can call cutting across an as-of-then-un-traversed street block exploring), and make a friend at a coffee shop. At $1.95, this morning's cup from the independent coffee store on the corner of Bergen and Clark was pretty decent, although I think the experience was improved by the fact that I made a friend there. She rescued me from the tag that was still attached to my shirt, and I re-assured her that despite what she had previously believed Romantic Times Book Reviews (RT), which is down the street from her apartment, was not actually run by the mob - at least not as far as I knew!
After work I checked in with Sara M and Emily M, about jobs, and then headed to Mary's. Together we went downstairs and signed up for the free sushi dinner EHS was hosting. Tonight they provided us with soup, salad, sushi for the first 45 people who signed up. Smartly, Mary and I signed up Liz who wasn't home from work yet. At dinner (which was surprisingly diverse for being free) we met a whole lot of new people, including Laura and Roberta (who live a few floors down) and Daphne who lives upstairs. After dinner we went to the grocery store and then I started to clean up my bedroom. My plan was to set up a budget and go to bed early. Like 9:30 pm early.
But Daph came to visit, and we spent ages rearranging her room and making friends and plans. So now at 3 am I really am heading to bed.
Goodnight Empire State Building, Goodnight Brooklyn Bridge. Hello exactly six hours until I have to get up. I wonder what tomorrow will bring!
