Short, Sweet, One-Day Treat

When my roommate's alarm went off twice before 9:14 am this morning, I was annoyed. When her phone also rang at 9:00, I rolled back over bound and determined to get my last fourteen minutes of sleep. Unfortunately my body seemed to think that I deserved more than just those fourteen, and I slept right through to when I was supposed to be leaving the house. Today's oppressive heat did nothing to improve the rushed and heinous start to the day.

But when Maria Q arrived here for dinner, she put a smile on my face, even if the rain meant she put a puddle on my floor. It turns out she doesn't work too far away from me at all - her entire commute was about 20 minutes. We had a lovely evening together. We tried out a restaurant called Stir It Up that served West Indies veggie cuisine. If you ever end up there, both the Amazing Chicken and the Steak Surprise were fabulous. But by far my very favorite part of the meal was that they had fried plantains. I love those. Really, like the way I love breathing or sweet potatoes! It was a very exciting evening.

Plus ohh, we even met a new friend, whose name is Sara. She met us on the elevator before we went down for dinner and introduced herself after she heard me raving about how psyched I am to see a GIANT Miss Piggy under the Brooklyn Bridge. Sara is a grad student working with the city to help preserve the city's monuments. But unfortunately, she was busy over dinner. After Maria headed home Sara, Ali, and I hung out around here. Sara and I made tentative plans to get scalper tickets for next weekend's Any DiFranco concert in Prospect Park. We even went to the park to eat ice cream because Sara had had a particularly heinous guy-sperience!
