Information regarding COVID-19

Updated March 27, 2020

Our highest priority always is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. We are deeply concerned about the impact of this rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic and have worked tirelessly to ensure we are protecting our community. Though we do not currently have a case of COVID-19 in our residences, we are working around the clock to protect our residents and to mitigate the spread of this virus and minimize exposure and risk.  We are prepared to respond to this rapidly changing situation. For the most updated information, please refer to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or your local health authority.

Although we have not had a case of COVID-19 in our residences, we have taken the following proactive measures against the spread of COVID-19:

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene recommends that if you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, you stay in your room.  If you do not feel better in 24-48 hours, they recommend that you call your health care provider.  If you do not have one, we recommend that you call your school wellness department.  If you need help getting medical care, call 311.

If you are self-isolating in your room, or if you feel you may be ill, please call your Residence Staff to alert them of the situation so we can help support you.

For regular updates regarding COVID-19 from the Mayor’s office please text COVID to 692-692.

We are in constant communication with our partner schools and will update our guidance as more information becomes available. We are also monitoring the pronouncements of the Centers for Disease Control, the New York State Department of Health, and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

We understand that many schools have asked their students to move out, either temporarily or for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. We are working with these schools to provide as smooth a check-out as possible. For those students who are remaining in the residences, we will continue to stay open and provide a welcoming home away from home for our students while protecting all residents and staff from the spread of the coronavirus.  For the students remaining with us that are required to remotely attend classes, we have taken steps to insure that our Wi-Fi systems have the capacity to handle the increased demand on our networks.

For those currently contracted directly with EHS, if you choose to leave, please know your room will remain yours until the remainder of your license agreement and you will be able to return as needed when in-person classes resume.

For summer residents contracted directly with EHS, we have extended our cancellation deadline through May 10, 2020 at 11:59PM ET (instead of April 15) to accommodate the uncertainty of future travel, internships, and more due to COVID-19.

To our staff, we understand that business continuity relies on your many areas of expertise, hard work, and continued commitment to this organization and we will work with you to ensure your personal and professional needs are met.  You have been working diligently to maintain exceptional student services and operational excellence.  We all appreciate your professionalism and commitment to our community especially during this time.

To families, your student’s health and wellbeing remains our top priority. We know this has been a challenging few weeks as we navigate these uncertain times together.  We will communicate frequently as we move through this situation together.

Our community is global, understanding, and resilient, and we are proud of the way we have come together to address this concerning and evolving situation.  If there is ever a time to practice more love and care for one another, no matter the distance, now is that time. We ask you to be patient and understand the challenges that we are all facing at this time.
