EHS Community Health Measures

Our highest priority always is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. We are deeply concerned about the impact of this rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic and have worked tirelessly to ensure we are protecting our community. Though we do not currently have a case of COVID-19 in our residences, we are working around the clock to protect our residents and to mitigate the spread of this virus and minimize exposure and risk.  We are prepared to respond to this rapidly changing situation. For the most updated information, please refer to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or your local health authority.

Although we have not had a case of COVID-19 in our residences, we have taken the following proactive measures against the spread of COVID-19:

  • Beginning on February 28, we have communicated with our residents about proper sanitary protocols for individuals (hand-washing, social distancing, coughing/sneezing into a tissue or your elbow);
  • On March 1st, we increased visibility of proper sanitary procedures for individuals (hand-washing, social distancing, coughing/sneezing into a tissue or your elbow);
  • We have added 52 hand sanitizer stations throughout our properties.
  • We have dramatically increased the sanitizing of our facilities, including all common high-touch areas.
  • Starting March 10th, we cancelled all EHS sponsored events in our residences for the foreseeable future;
  • Starting on March 10th, we suspended all tours of EHS residences for the foreseeable future;
  • We implemented a no-guest policy starting on March 13th;

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene recommends that if you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, you stay in your room.  If you do not feel better in 24-48 hours, they recommend that you call your health care provider.  If you do not have one, we recommend that you call your school wellness department.  If you need help getting medical care, call 311.

If you are self-isolating in your room, or if you feel you may be ill, please call your Residence Staff to alert them of the situation so we can help support you.

We are in constant communication with our partner schools and will update our guidance as more information becomes available. We are also monitoring the pronouncements of the Centers for Disease Control, the New York State Department of Health, and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

For residents contracted directly with EHS starting fall 2020, we have extended our cancellation deadline through July 31, 2020 at 11:59PM ET (instead of July 15) to accommodate the uncertainty of classes, future travel, and more due to COVID-19.

To our staff, we understand that business continuity relies on your many areas of expertise, hard work, and continued commitment to this organization and we will work with you to ensure your personal and professional needs are met.  You have been working diligently to maintain exceptional student services and operational excellence.  We all appreciate your professionalism and commitment to our community especially during this time.

To families, your student’s health and wellbeing remains our top priority. We know this has been a challenging few weeks as we navigate these uncertain times together.  We will communicate frequently as we move through this situation together.

Building and Student Life Information for Current Residents

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and the guidelines put in place by Governor Cuomo, all Student Life Desks/Offices are open virtually only, to help limit the spread/ risk of infection. If you have questions, we can best be reached by email. Please email us at your building’s email address: 

Lockouts -If you are locked out of your room, please go to Security and they can let you into your room.

Package Room – Package pickup times have been reduced drastically. See below for hours of operation:

  • from 2PM-6PM daily. Mail and packages will only be picked up once a day in the afternoons for processing and distribution.
  • 1760 Third Avenue – open from 2PM-6PMdaily. 
  • St. George Towers – To receive your package, please text the RA on Duty at 917.623.4690 and your package will be left in a pre-determined location. Packages may be received up until 9PM.

*Please note, we are unable to forward packages and if you or someone you know is unable to claim them, we will return them to the sender.

Kitchen Hours - To maintain an adequate cleaning schedule, kitchens will only be open daily:

  • 8am-11am
  • 12pm-3pm
  • 5pm-8pm

Guest Policy -for the safety and security of all residents and staff, Day and Overnight guestsWILL NOT be allowed at any time. 

Common Areas – all common areas except for lounges and laundry rooms have been closed. These include all gyms, study rooms, TV dens, conference rooms etc…

Checking Out – please complete an express checkout form before leaving. These can be obtained next to any Student Life Office/ Desk.

Events – at this time we have postponed all of our in-person events. We hope that you are enjoying all of the free virtual concerts and performances given by artists all over the world.

Building and Student Life Information for Summer 2020 Residents:

The safety of our residents and staff is our top priority, so we want to let you know about the necessary adjustments we are making in light of COVID-19. These changes correspond with guidelines of New York State’s current “PAUSE” executive order, which is in effect for New York City until further notice from the government. For more details on this order please visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov.

Check-in Procedures:
Check-in appointments will be made on an individual basis. Further instructions will be sent via email around May 15th.

ID Photo:
Check-in apPlease send us a photo of yourself that can be used as your EHS ID (a selfie works!). Please reply to this email with the photo.

Guest Policies:
At this time, we are not permitting outside guests in the EHS residences beyond move-in day.

Common Areas:
Gatherings are not currently permitted in New York City, so we have reduced available space in common areas to help discourage crowding. Residents must remain 6 feet apart from one another.

Fitness Center:
All fitness centers in New York City are closed until further notice.

Communal Kitchens:
Kitchens remain open with limited hours that will be posted in the building. Residents must remain 6 feet apart from one another.

Events:
All in-person EHS events are cancelled for the summer, however we will be hosting regular online events instead.

Packages:
We are still accepting delivery packages and have limited package pick-up hours for our residents 5 days a week.

Face Coverings:
Residents should bring their own face coverings and wear them when outside of their rooms to stay in compliance with New York City guidelines.

Cleaning Supplies:
EHS continues to clean all high-touch common areas frequently, however students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms. We recommend bringing cleaning supplies with you, if possible, as they have been a challenge to get in NYC stores.

4. Provide Guarantor Information

A guarantor is a person over the age of 21, usually a parent, who agrees to be responsible if you are ever unable to fulfill the financial obligations of your housing agreement. If you can't get a parent to be a guarantor, the next best bet would be a relative or friend.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

To ensure the integrity of your reservation, all cancellation requests MUST be received by EHS through DocuSign or sent via certified or registered mail (to 55 Clark Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201, Attention: Director of Leasing). Your request MUST be processed by DocuSign by 11:59 pm New York City Time, or postmarked on or before the cancellation deadlines set forth above. Cancellation requests processed or postmarked after the deadline or sent via a different method will result in NO REFUND of monies paid.

If there is a guarantor (required for 9 and 12 month reservations), the guarantor will be responsible to guarantee payment pursuant to the License Agreement and the Guaranty.

The client also understands that the Membership Fee is NONREFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE.

All refunds are processed via check within 8-10 weeks and mailed to the client.
