Arrival Information

1760 Third Avenue

You are about to join your fellow EHS residents in one of the world’s greatest hubs of culture and creativity; leading to lasting memories and friendships.

Prepare For Your Arrival

Packing Tips

Here are some tips to help you plan:
  • Closet space is limited so you do not want to bring your entire wardrobe, but you should plan for both warm and cool weather.
  • Each room has a refrigerator and microwave. Although you may want to bring a car full of food, there are grocery stores right around the corner. If you choose to bring food, we recommend only bringing items that will not expire quickly during your travel.
  • You may want to consider purchasing a lock box for your important items. While we are confident you and your roommate will get along, we think it is a good idea to keep your valuable items locked so only you have access. We are not responsible for any lost/stolen items.
  • Please refrain from bringing in unwashed or discarded furniture from outside. These items could bring in pests such as bedbugs.
  • We recommend that you use luggage with wheels for smooth move-in and move-out experiences.
  • While there is a Television with a great cable package in your room, you might want to bring a DVD player.

We ask that residents do not have overnight guests during their first week at the residence. Check-In Day

Check-In Process

Prior to your arrival, you will receive information from us about your check-in date and times. Upon your arrival to the residence, please direct yourself to the Student Life Office (full address below) with a valid photo ID (state, school ID or passport) to start your check-in process. There you will be greeted by a staff member who will check you in and provide you with your key/ID card as well as other important information. If you have someone helping you move in, please have them stay with your belongings while you check-in. If you park in front of the building, do not leave your car unattended as it is a “No Parking Zone” (unattended cars will be towed). We recommend that someone stay with the car until all of your belongings have been unloaded. Afterwards, you can move your car to a nearby parking garage or parking space. To help with your move, you may borrow a moving cart to bring your items to your room. Moving carts are available on a first come, first serve basis. Our official check-in time is between 10am-3pm. This timing allows us to assist new residents as best as possible, as well as make sure everyone has enough time to prepare for orientation later that night. While we hope you are able to check-in during these times, we understand that is not always possible. Therefore, anyone arriving after 3pm should go directly to our Student Life Office where we will give you your key and a brief overview of the residence. How To Get Here

We have created the below directions to help you get to your new home.
Ground Transportation Information is available in the baggage claim/arrival areas of all terminals unless indicated as "Private Car/Limousine/Van Service" or "Taxi". Taxi Dispatch Stands are conveniently located outside on the arrivals level of every terminal. A uniformed Taxi Dispatcher will place you in the first available yellow, medallion taxicab. The Taxi Dispatcher will give you a ticket indicating the date, terminal and taxicab medallion number. Please keep this ticket for referrals regarding lost property, complaints and compliments.
Taxis into the city take anywhere from 30-60 minutes. They cost $52 "Flat Fare" plus bridge tolls and tip to Manhattan (price might change without notice - Taxis are regulated by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission).
Taxis from LaGuardia cost approximately $30 - $40. (Price might change without notice - Taxis are regulated by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission).
Newark Airport: The AirTrain offers connecting service to NJ Transit and Amtrak trains which will bring you into Manhattan. Surprisingly, this can actually be much quicker than taking a cab or bus, and it is much more affordable. $12.50 one way will bring you from Newark Airport to Penn Station. AirTrain connects the NJ Transit "Newark Airport Station" to the airport terminals. Please check NJ Transit train schedule for times.
John F Kennedy Airport: The AirTrain offers connecting service to the MTA Subway which will bring you into Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Take the AirTrain to connect effortlessly with NYC subways or the Long Island Rail Road to your destination. Please check the MTA and AirTrain schedules for times.

Getting Settled

Once you move-in your belongings into your new room please discard any garbage and boxes inside the trash areas located in the closet behind the elevators on every floor. Garbage bags should be discarded in the trash chute, boxes and large items should be broken down and left inside the garbage closet. We highly appreciate you return the moving carts back to the Security Desk for other residents to use. While in your room, please check that your TV, internet, phone line, AC, etc. are working and note any issues you might see on the Room Condition Report. While we do not foresee any problems with your room, we might have missed something and it is important for you to report it upon your move in.

Getting Acquainted
