Educational Housing Services, Inc. Partners with The Norman Mailer Center

EHS housed the 2013 Norman Mailer Center Fellows this summer in Brooklyn Heights, NY

BROOKLYN, NY (August 11, 2013): Educational Housing Services, Inc. (EHS), the leading provider of private, off-campus student housing in New York City, was proud to house the prestigious Norman Mailer Center Fellowship program this summer at its St. George Residence located in Brooklyn Heights, New York -- the very same neighborhood in which Mailer once lived.

The Center offers Fellowships for fiction, nonfiction and poetry to promising writers from all over the world.

For three weeks this summer, Norman Mailer's eldest son, Michael Mailer, had been hosting the Center's fellowship programs at the elder Mailer's home in Brooklyn Heights, New York, where he lived for more than 40 years and wrote many of his books. Afternoon readings and meetings in the evenings were scheduled in Mailer's living room. J. Michael Lennon, Mailer's official biographer, discussed Mailer's 1951 novel, Barbary Shore (which is set in Brooklyn Heights), and provided the fellows with a walking tour of the area.

"We are extremely honored to have had this partnership with The Norman Mailer Center, and thrilled that the Fellows were able to share information on Mailer's rich legacy with the other students and interns living in our residence," says Jeffrey H. Lynford, President and CEO of Educational Housing Services.

Applicants from fiction, nonfiction and poetry were chosen for this program based on merit. Each successful Fellow's award covered full tuition and housing for the entire three-week period of residency.

The Norman Mailer Center was founded by Mailer's last wife, Norris Church Mailer, with Mailer's close friend and collaborator, Lawrence Schiller.
