EHS Hosts Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Celebrating Newly Renovated Hudson Yards Campus feat. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, NYC Council Member Erik Bottcher and more

Special Guests Included U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and District 3 NYC Council Member Erik Bottcher

Educational Housing Services (EHS), a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to enhance the NYC college and intern experience by providing safe and affordable housing, celebrated the final renovations on its student residence, the EHS Hudson Yards Campus, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025 from 3:00-5:00PM. The ribbon cutting took place at 3:30PM, with remarks from U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, District 3 NYC Council Member Erik Bottcher, EHS President and CEO Jeffrey H. Lynford, and Sunday Development CEO John LaValley. The new renovations were designed by NYC-based architecture firm STUDIOS and completed by Wesbuilt Construction Managers. Artwork is displayed on loan in the residence from NYC-based artist, poet, and founder of the artistic movement, Neo-African Abstract Expressionism, Danny Simmons.

Located at 419 W. 34th Street in Manhattan's Hudson Yards and Manhattan West neighborhoods, the 400-unit EHS Hudson Yards Campus residence was formerly named The Webster Apartments and long served as a residence exclusively for women working in NYC. Educational Housing Services acquired the property in 2023 and under EHS management, the residence now provides co-ed housing to undergraduate and graduate students and college interns from around the world. Residents include students attending CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Fordham, New School, NYU, Pace, and SUNY FIT, among others. Since acquiring the facility, the EHS Hudson Yards Campus has undergone thoughtful modern upgrades while preserving its century-old character and mission of supporting students from all backgrounds. The development plan was managed by Sunday Development, and the design was prepared by architecture firm STUDIOS, which prioritizes designing spaces people will want to experience rather than simply occupy. EHS’s improvements have been recognized for excellence in energy and environmental management and performance with a Sustainable Building Certification from BOMA BEST, the largest environmental assessment and certification program for existing buildings in North America.

The residence’s features are designed to foster academic and personal success and include fully furnished single rooms, 24/7 security, free WiFi and air conditioning, a spacious community kitchen, lounges, a game room, dedicated study spaces, a beautiful private backyard, and ongoing community events. Sustainability upgrades include energy-saving lights, water-efficient fixtures, better waste practices, and improved building systems. Striking artwork by Danny Simmons is on display in the residence entrance and lobby area to warmly welcome residents home, on loan courtesy of Westwood Gallery NYC.

“The Hudson Yards Campus building has a proud legacy of supporting students and interns, and we are honored to carry that legacy forward,” said Jeffrey Lynford, President and CEO of Educational Housing Services. “By integrating the newly renovated Hudson Yards Campus into the EHS network of residences, we are expanding access to safe, affordable, and supportive housing for students and interns in one of the most dynamic and opportunity-rich cities in the world.”

“The renovation of the Educational Housing Services Hudson Yards Campus residence is an exciting next chapter for a historically community-focused building, home to the next generation of New Yorkers who want to learn, work, and grow here,” said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. “The newly renovated housing complex welcomes hundreds of students and interns to New York City, and I am proud to support this important initiative.”

Educational Housing Services has provided safe and affordable housing to students and interns in New York City since organizing in 1985, and currently manages seven residences throughout NYC, including in the St. George Towers in Brooklyn Heights and New Yorker hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
