EHS BOOK DRIVE-DONATING TO JUSTICE
Do you have any new or used books that you’re not using?
Well then, why not share the knowledge they hold with others. EHS will be hosting a book drive beginning August 1st and ending August 12th, collecting all used and unwanted books. If you have any old or lightly used, books in decent condition, please drop them off at any of our residences. We will be collecting books of all kinds, fiction, sci-fi, or fairytale books that you do not want anymore.
We have joined forces with Better World Books an organization that believes literacy and education is a basic human right. They have recycled over 70 million pounds of books and raised over $9.4 million for global literacy and local libraries. Every book someone buys or donates expands their collective impact.
All online sales will benefit the Invisible Children a movement who is seeking to end the longest running conflict in the Africa continent. The conflict’s soldiers are children abducted from their homes and forced to fight. Invisible Children is seeking to end this and bring them back home, they rebuild schools, educate future leaders and provide jobs in Northern Uganda.
Why not end your summer in a great why by helping out someone in need. If you don’t have any books with you and still want to help, make sure to check out the Invisible Children website for ways that you can get involved.

New Yorker Residence
Kayaking on the Hudson
EHS residents at the New Yorker Residence had a fantastic time paddling their way up and down the Hudson River while taking a free Kayaking trip. Residents were able to escape from their busy schedules and the heat during this event. Each resident was given their own kayak for over an hour to enjoy the New York scenes from a new angle. When they were tired of paddling around residents laid back and took in the sun on the beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Brooklyn Brewerly Tour
The Brooklyn Brewery Tour that happened on July 3rd was a fun and interesting experience. Located in the very eccentric Williamsburg, residents took a tour of the factory that produced the famous beer that is sold in store throughout the world. The tour consisted of a brief history behind the creation of the factory as well as the bizarre deal that was agreed upon between the creators of the company and the famous Graphic Designer Milton Glaser to get him to create the logo for the company.
Marymount Residence
What a great summer day! Definitely one of New York City’s best hidden treasures. It is just 7 minutes away from NYC, on a free ferry ride! The residents and enjoyed a breathtaking bike ride with phenomenal views. Governors Island is one of the most peaceful places in New York with amazing views of the Statue of Liberty, New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Downtown Manhattan. We had a picnic, played football, snacked, and soaked in the views. The colonial structures add to the charm of the island. Walking through the main lawn amongst the tall oak trees and colonial style houses, you forget that you are in a major city. The ferry is FREE and almost everything on the Island is FREE (except the bike rentals). We had an amazing time, and literally spend the entire day there. Definitely a must see destination of New York City!
Brooklyn Bridge park is awesome and it’s a 5 minute walk away.
