My Time in NYC with Educational Housing Services!
MY EHS Summer Experience
As I was applying to get my first internship, I was secretly hoping I would end up in the greatest city in the world, New York City. I had always dreamt of living there and knew that a summer internship there would give me just the right amount of time there to see what it would be like to live in the city full time.
Shortly after my interview with Randi Rahm, I was offered the opportunity to be a production intern. I was so excited that I immediately started making plans. I went online to find housing, and EHS kept popping up. I lived in the Marymount location, and the building was a 10-minute walk from my office, was affordable, and offered the type of living configuration that I was looking for, so I instantly knew that I would be living there this summer. I knew that the city would be amazing and the location of my housing would be great, but what I didn’t expect was the overwhelming feeling of community EHS provided us with.
I grew up in the middle of nowhere Maryland and go to college in the middle of nowhere Virginia so taking the leap to move to the big city was thrilling but also terrifying. EHS always had Broadway shows to attend, city tours, breakfasts, museum walks, and other fun activities to get us out of our rooms on the weekends. I made some very close friends while doing these events which made my transition to the city so much easier.
Without EHS, I imagine I would have lived in a tiny (and very expensive) apartment far away from my office and would not have met anyone other than my coworkers. They provided my friends and me with opportunities to explore the city we were living in. I can’t imagine my summer without the constant stream of exciting things to do and amazing people to meet. Thanks to EHS my transition to city life was seamless, and it made my experience there all the better.
My favorite thing about my neighborhood was the accessibility to most things NYC has to offer. I could stroll over to times square, central park, or even the UN building in less than 20 minutes and with such a central location, everything else I wanted to see was a short subway ride away.
My favorite memory from my time in the city was creating a display for the company I interned for, and presenting it at a large fundraiser party we had for the Chita Rivera Awards. There were many Broadway stars, producers, and even some of the real housewives of NY in the crowd and I was so proud of my work that it was the best night of the summer!

I love living with EHS – I lived 15 minutes walk from my internship (Randi Rahm Atellier). I was able to meet friends in my dorm without having to venture out on my own, so I was able to do my own thing but still have people to depend on.
