Maintenance & Repairs
If you encounter a maintenance issue in your room, please notify the Student Life Office. If the office is closed, please email us at NewYorker@studenthousing.org. For non-life-threatening maintenance emergency such as a flood, call the emergency line at 917-697-9610.
Routine maintenance and repairs (such as a plumbing, electrical, or furniture/appliance maintenance, etc.) are provided at no cost. We encourage you to report issues immediately. Neglecting to make a report (leaky faucet, water damage, etc.), could lead to further, more complicated problems. If you damage anything, you will have to repay the building for the cost of repairs or replacements (i.e. heavy objects dropped onto, or falling from the vanity and cracking/ puncturing the sink). Additionally, if the resident is found responsible for causing the issue (i.e. flushing foreign objects down the septic system, foreign objects are defined as anything other than human waste and toilet paper), you may be responsible for the cost of cleaning and repairing.
Residents are expected to maintain cleanliness in their rooms and bathrooms, including regular cleaning of the tub, sink, and toilet. To prevent mold and maintain hygiene, we recommend cleaning at least once per week. As a reminder, human waste and toilet paper are the only items that should be flushed.
EHS cannot service or repair any furnishings or equipment provided by residents. Do not put any nails, screws, hooks or sticky substances in/on the wall. You will be responsible for any damage caused to the room.

EXTERMINATION PROCEDURES
There is an exterminator who performs weekly maintenance in common areas. If you find that you need to utilize this service, please submit an extermination request by clicking here.
EXTERMINATOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Keep your room free of debris and all food in sealed containers to prevent a bug problem. We highly recommend that unused boxes and plastic bags are properly disposed. Do not leave items on the floor as this creates a breeding ground for unwanted insects and pests. The exterminator has been instructed to inform us of any rooms that violate these guidelines and a note to document such violations will be submitted to you. You will be given 24 hours to correct all noted violations and a post inspection will follow.
